Penny Glaze

Penny Glaze is a mesh-mounted penny round mosaic in a deep reactive green. The glaze pools and breaks over each round, so no two pieces read exactly alike and a darker ring settles at every edge — a surface that shifts between grey-green and teal as the light changes.

Details for your project

One mesh sheet. One reactive green. A surface that is never twice the same.

Nominal 12 × 12 in mesh-mounted sheet. Rounds are drawn indicatively; Arta does not publish a piece diameter it has not verified. Diagram, not to scale.

Sheets offset

Sheets butt together on the mesh. Align the edge rows so the round spacing continues across the seam rather than doubling up; a dry run of three or four sheets shows the seam before anything is fixed.

Ordering
Special order

Piece diameter, thickness, body type and performance classes are confirmed with your order. A reactive glaze is deliberately uneven: order a sample and accept the range rather than a single tone.

Grout and seams

A penny round has far more joint per square foot than a flat tile, so grout colour decides the finished look more than it does elsewhere. A tone close to the darker ring keeps the circles reading as a field; a pale contrast turns the grid into the pattern. Work the grout fully into the round-to-round gaps and clean the haze before it sets on a gloss glaze.

Care

Clean with a neutral pH product and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasives and acidic descalers, which dull a reactive glaze and attack the joints.
